What does it mean to polish a Live Wedding Painting?
Live Wedding Painting can be raw and more impressionistic.
When you hire a Live Wedding Painter, she or he paints “live“, plein-air, on location. This means, the artist you hire arrived at the wedding venue to create your wedding painting “in situ“. For around 6 hours straight you and your guest can witness how the painting develops in time. The painter encapsulates the vibe and atmosphere of the event, using vibrant colours to express the light effects, or sharp contrast to create more impact.
This first version captures the impression of the moment. As the painter is working on a limited period of time, he or she stops at the agreed time and leaves the painting as it is. You can choose to keep the painting as this beautiful raw and wabi-sabi (Japanese term to embrace imperfection) version.

Polishing is: add touch ups and a bit detailing
My client liked the raw and more impressionistic live wedding painting version, but she still felt that it wouldn’t hurt to have it a bit more polished.I took the painting back to the studio for a few extra hours of polishing and touch ups.

When working with a client, and consider that the painting is ready to show, I’ll send a photo to them. If they wish to adjust some details, we can work them out in this round. In this case, my client loved the impressionistic effect and didn’t want to detail it too much, just enough to cover some lines and areas.
For me, this was a great challenge, since I am used to work the painting until I can turn it more realistically. I let go the painting as it was, but just added a few brushstrokes and glazings. The result was this stunning capture of their wedding moment.
“Perfect, I love it!” moment.
Once we are happy with the result, I add a couple of varnish layers to the painting, before packaging it and shipping it to my client’s home.
